The actions of the property management of University Club Apartments, located at 4707 Third Street, Detroit, MI 48201-3722, sponsored a liability to the company, my roommates and me. As management did not verify the presence of the signature of one roommate on the lease, now removed, before issuing keys, management is partly responsible for subsequent events. In summary, management gave the following two options to two of the three remaining roommates, including myself, electing to terminate the lease. The first incorporated the agreement of the roommate not requesting the termination to take full responsibility for the unit, including the search for potential roommates. The two roommates requesting the termination, upon agreement of the remaining roommate, were provided the opportunity to sign another twelve month lease and pay a nonrefundable transfer fee. The other option, in which we were arguably forced into, was to remain on the lease. As management never accepted responsibility for their actions and involvement, the choices are unacceptable. It was then made clear to management that two of the three roommates, unable to terminate the lease, moved out by early March 2009. Aside from paying four months of double rent, I may lose my portion of the security deposit due to damages to the unit by the remaining roommate. In addition, the roommate who also left in March may lose an appropriate portion of the security deposit.
The paragraph above illustrates the actions of management at University Club Apartments. However, the paragraph does not include the actions of the roommates for or against the other roommates.
